Spring Fling Baskets:
As occurs each year, the Glen Stewart Primary/Stratford Elementary Home and School Association organize a huge celebration for families in our community called “The Spring Fling.” This is a major fundraiser whose proceeds go to support your school’s learning initiatives. The funds raised typically go to purchase books for classroom libraries, or to support the school library collection, or to buy much needed supplies for curricular activities.
This year, Stratford is participating in the preparations by having each grade level put together a themed gift basket for the raffle table. We have decided that the theme for the grade 5 basket will be “Camping Adventures”. Students/Families are asked to send in donations so that the grade 5 teachers can purchase items to fill the Spring Basket. Please have your items in by Friday, May 29th.
Thanks so much for your ongoing support!
End-of-Year Field Trip:
The grade 5 teachers have organized a field trip to celebrate the end of the school year with their students. On Thursday, June 25, all grade 5 students will be heading to the CARI complex for a morning of fun in the pool and then going to the Cineplex to catch a movie in the afternoon. We are just finalizing details so more information will be sent home in the next couple of weeks.
School Supply Fee for Grade 6:
We remind parents to forward remittances for school supplies on or before May 29th. This may be done in the form of cash or cheque made payable to Stratford Elementary School or via our on-line lunch program. The cost is $40.
This week we will be finishing up with our Weather unit, having created weather instruments to record the weather all week. Our next Humanities unit is Social Studies where we will be studying social order during the Middle Ages.
Now that we have concluded our mystery stories, students will begin working on a poetry theme where they will be studying and writing these 6 types of poems: free verse, cinquain, limerick, 3 word model, 4 line reaction, and riddle.
We will be finishing Volume this week and touching on Capacity as well as other Measurement outcomes. In June, students will also learning about Statistics and Probability.
