April 18 – 28

Hi Everyone,
I hope you all had a nice Easter weekend. Just a reminder, there is no school Friday, April 28th

The Grade 5 team is planning a carousel activity as an Easter Seals fundraising activity for next Friday, April 21 from 10:45-11:25.  Students will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities within the grade 5 hallway. Any denomination is gratefully accepted between now and next Friday and will be forwarded to the ambassador, Gordon Cameron, when he visits our school, next Wednesday.
We are finishing up our latest Math outcomes: PR1 – Determining the pattern rule to make predictions about subsequent elements and PR2 – Solving problems involving single-variable, one step equations. We will have a test on Thursday before moving on to Space and Shape – Area & Perimeter. Homework is going home this evening, due Friday, but would be a good review for the upcoming test.
In Writer’s Workshop, we have been reading aloud Ghost Boy of MacKenzie House by Island Author, Patti Larsen along with other short mystery stories as part of our Mystery Unit. The students will be creating their own mystery story including mystery elements such as: a crime, detectives, suspects, clues, evidence, distractions and of course a solution. Homework for this week focuses on quotation marks as dialogue should be a part of your child’s mystery story.
In Science, we continue to learn about solids, liquids, and gases, noticing their changes and whether they are reversible or not.
There will be no Word Work homework this week.
Have a great week!
Meredith
